Capital E

On Friday all the Year 3 and 4 children took two buses to Capital E to experience the National Children's Art Festival. First was Pulse a performance by a group called Strike! This involved some amazing drumming and some incredible tricks with fire. Great to watch but something we won't be trying at home!
Then we had the Petting Zoo where we got to see and pet some VERY realistic Dinosaur puppets. William even put his head inside Dolores the Dinosaur's mouth! Wow he is brave! I'm glad he is okay and will still be at school on Monday...
Last but not least we went to watch a very moving performance called "Kia Ora Khalid" set in the school playground. This musical is about the migration stories of the families of four children and what it means to be a kiwi in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

Week 6

Swimming sports, Inquiry and Art!
What a creative week we have had in Room 8...
On Tuesday we all took part in the Year 3 and 4 Swimming Sports at Eastbourne pool. Before we started some of us were nervous, some of us were excited. Afterward we felt great because we had given it a go and we had heaps of fun at the same time!
This week for Inquiry we have set up some experiments to look at what plants need to grow. For our whole class experiment we have set up two plants on the window sill: one with water and one without, we also set up two plants in a dark place: one with water and one without. What do you think we are testing? Take a look at our photos to see what we have been doing...
On Thursday we walked over to the Year 7 and 8 side of the school to see our buddies in Room 21. We drew portraits of our buddy's face and they drew ours, the aim was to keep our pencil off the paper at all. Wow that was hard but we drew some really interesting and crazy portraits. Next week we will be using pastels to make them bright and colourful so we can have our Room 21 buddy portraits hanging in our classroom.
Have a fantastic weekend Room 8!

Growing a Plant

Yet another busy week in Room 8....
We have started our a new Inquiry topic which is all about growing plants. We have started the excite and explore part of our inquiry by looking around our school at all the different plants which grow in our environment. Take a look at some of the photos we took....
Later in the term we will be doing all sorts of plant experiments and planting our own vegetables. We will also be doing some leaf pressing and lots of other great plant related activities. We are all really excited about our new inquiry!

Week 4

WOW what a busy week we have had in Room 8!

On Monday we started something really exciting with the whole Year 3/4 syndicate. It is called "Thinking Skills" and once a week we will get together to do some great activities to help us to think about a variety of things in different ways. This week Mr Dobson talked about a man called Tony Ryan who came up with some 'keys' to unlock our creativity! He introduced us to the 'What if" key. We were shown a crazy cartoon of people living under ground and we thought about What if we lived under ground? We put on our thinking hats: our Yellow hat- What would be the benefits of living under ground? Our Black hat- What would be the bad points? and our Green hat- what other creative ideas can we come up with as solutions to a problem with living under ground?
It was great fun and really got us thinking!

We are starting to get settled into our Reading and Maths rotations for the term.
For Writing we have created a class Imaginary Recount called "Room 8's Holiday!"

We have finished up with our Inquiry: Growing a Friendship. Check out our galaxy of Values below! Next week we are looking forward to starting a new Science Inquiry on Growing a Plant.

To top it all off we had Whacky Hair day on Friday!! Everyone got involved and there were some elaborate and exciting hair do's floating around the school and the Eastbourne pool!

I hope all the Room 8 children have a relaxing and enjoyable weekend.
